Kuan Young Wants You to Incorporate Nature into Your Healing

By Kim Russell

Giving back to the community is often looked at through a narrow scope, especially during the holidays. We are accustomed to donations of food, clothing, and toy drives, and though they will always be valued, it is refreshing to witness the growth of how we view community givebacks. Kuan Young holds a pivotal role in this expansion.

Kuan is a local artist and author whose artistic expressions include poetry, painting, photography, sculpture, singing, and dancing. After a period that forced him to confront himself and challenge a darkness that pushed him to the brink of depression, Young knew it was necessary to heal from the inside out. He sought wellness over weariness, reconnecting with his body and tapping into his strength as a healer. Soon after, with some divine timing, he was gifted with his first plant baby and became aligned with his path.

Young had an awakening, prompting a new aptitude for growth and transformation as he nurtured and observed the growth of his plant. “We live in a vibrational world,” he says: “What we read creates our knowledge, and what we say creates our experiences.” He realized that his journey wasn’t just about personal endeavors—it was about healing in community and doing his part to raise the collective spirit. Since then, he has utilized his knowledge and experiences to initiate healing practices for himself and others.

The public has deeply contributed to Kuan’s sense of self and how he navigates sharing space with others; for him, everything can be a mirror. This awareness led him to open a wellness studio, which serves as a powerful ally for emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual healing. Modalities shared in the sacred space include yoga, the frequency of sound baths, access to crystals, and intimate rituals that foster self-connection.

Early on, Young noticed a disconnect between healing practices and feeling healed. He noticed individuals who were doing yoga every day but not feeling any better; to this, he maintains that “maybe [they] haven’t put the right things in [their] body,” or maybe their wellness journey should incorporate the novelty of nature.

As a remedy, he has poured into his non-profit—The Garden Godfather Inc.— to increase environmental awareness, help the public forge relationships with plants and nature, and host several land stewarding initiatives. The initiatives include the Golden Garden, an urban conservatory of herbs, flowers, and produce for the community; the Free To Bee initiative, serving to increase pollinator awareness while sustaining the bee community; and Farm to Fork brunches, which emphasize the importance of wholesome nutrition.

Young stresses the significance of being present and embodying his gifts while leaning into authenticity, which will naturally imprint onto others whatever they are meant to take away from him. This is where love shows up in the present. “When I’m not thinking about the past or when I’m not thinking about the future… But when I’m in the present, that’s when love shows up for me,” he says.

Everyone’s journey is different, and everyone emits a different frequency. Young’s favorite part of his journey is sharing his frequency:   “As I play the sound bowls… I’m able to emit a light and omit a frequency with my intention…  whatever my intention is for that moment, or that time or that space, I’m able to send that out and give that to people.”

In the summer of 2025, we can look forward to Young’s second book. In the meantime, he’s been a busy bee, arming himself with knowledge of the healing properties of honey and preparing to release a line of infused honey called Free 2 Bee Botanical. Young is enthusiastic about honing this new modality. He comments, “I’ve been able to perfect the modality for myself, [now] I am providing it to the community and public, which is exciting.”

If we feel good in our mind, body, and soul, it can only positively impact our communities. Kuan Young’s approach is to be present with our spirit and treat ourselves as a sanctuary for self-reflection. As he continues to inspire, uplift, and heal, his journey is a testament to the transformative power of sharing your gifts with the world.
